MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Two (2) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings, plumbing or electrical or mechanical equipment; or

Vocational/technical training in mechanical repair or one of the building trades can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours for a maximum of one year of the required experience.

Requires possession of a valid Driver License.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires occasional travel.

Occasional travel required.

Complete required orientation/training in the supervision of inmates prior to assuming supervision and attend refresher training annually thereafter.

NOTES:

This position is located at the Immokalee State Farmers Market, 424 New Market Road East, Immokalee, Florida.

Successful applicant must pass a background screening, including fingerprinting, as a condition of employment.

During watermelon season, flexibility is preferred to operate scales on nights and weekends.

JOB DUTIES:

Repair and/or paint interiors and exteriors of buildings, including windows, doors, steps, walls, and structural members. Make minor carpentry repairs. Make minor roofing repairs.

Trim and remove weeds and trees. Maintain market grounds by collecting and disposing of discarded debris and repairing fences. Operate and maintain yard maintenance equipment to include lawn mowers, mow grass on market property.

Make minor electrical and plumbing repairs. Install, maintain and repair buildings electrical and mechanical equipment. Perform minor mechanical repairs to state equipment.

Perform various cement/concrete work and perform minor welding/brazing. Make minor asphalt repairs.

Direct the Department of Corrections inmates in tasks regarding maintenance and repairs of buildings and grounds. Coordinate and instruct inmates.

Operate truck scale; use, and fill out scale tickets in numerical order; record scale ticket usage log; collect fees and make change.

Maintain inventory of building, maintenance, cleaning, and restroom supplies.

Conduct emergency lighting testing and fire extinguishers inspections. Document findings on report and submit to supervisor.

Operate and maintain power tools, including power saws, drills, chain saws, bench grinders, and other tools as necessary.

Perform other related work as assigned by supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of general principles of carpentry, masonry, electricity, plumbing and mechanical work, using safety procedures required in maintenance and repair work.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs., communicates effectively, and establishes and maintains effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Skilled in using tools and equipment required in maintenance and repair work.
  • Ability to read blueprints and take accurate measurements.
